Reyaz Badaruddin

India


Born in 1974, Reyaz did his B.F.A in Pottery/Ceramics Faculty of Visual Arts, from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, after which he got an apprenticeship with Isaiah Zagar, in Philadelphia, USA – 2003 and then again with Ray Meeker, in Pondicherry, India. He completed his M.A from Cardiff School of Art and Design, U.K.

Selected shows include:

‘Earthenware’, a selection of Anagama fired ceramics, Art Heritage, at New   Delhi, India in 2011 and ‘Ceramic Pottery and Sculpture’, Sponsored by Sanskriti Kendra & Vasant Valley in New Delhi, India, in the year 2003.Tiles Forever, Visual Art Gallery in New Delhi, ‘S C U L P T’, Art Spice Gallery in New Delhi, 2012, ‘Earth and Fire’, Rufford, Nottinghamshire, UK 2010, An invitational show hosted by Religare Arts Initiative and the British Council at   Gallery Religare, in New Delhi, 2010. He was awarded a Junior Fellowship for the excellence in the field of Visual Arts, from Govt. of India in 2011, also received Charles Wallace (India) Trust Award, UK in 2008, National Scholarship by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India in 2001 and National Award, AIFACS, New Delhi, 1998, 2000. 

The body of works by Reyaz Badaruddin comprises of simple, but technically challenging wheel-thrown forms together with hand-sculpted architectural forms designed with the Anagama kiln in mind. This is an ancient type of kiln using wood to fire the pottery.

The Artist now lives in Delhi.
