Pramod Ganpatye

A look at how the subject of Pramod Ganaptye’s paintings are icons of age.
Pramod Ganpatye is one of those rare artists who has a deep-rooted knowledge of the sources of our contemporary art that have given it in place in the global art market today. As a farmer guide-lecture at the Crafts Museum in Delhi, he got an insider’s view of contemparary craft production. This allowed him to interact with a rich and continuous live source of ideas and
techniques that were readily available to Indian artists. He could have been satisfed with just interacting with craftpersons as many of the contemporary atists have done;but he was more demanding. He became a research associate at the National Muesum where he studied a collection of 20000, of our choicest miniatures, from Jain manuscripts and imperial Mughal miniatures to those of Rajasthan and the Himalayan foothills.
