Constable's own version of iconic painting goes on sale for the first time in 160 years

A second painting of the same scene depicted in The Lock has emerged onto the market for the first time since 1855
On 9th December 2015 Sotheby's London will offer for sale John Constable's 'The Lock' c.1824-5, one of a small group of landscapes known as the' six footers' from the artists career, the painting depicts a scene on the River Stour in Suffolk, this painting was kept in his studio until his death and was last seen for sale in 1855.
